Though in most circles it was not nearly as successful as Counter Strike or Day of Defeat, this mod for Half Life was one of my favorites.  It's rather ironic to note that Half Life uses a highly modified version of the Quake 1 engine, and this mod repliates Quake 1 deathmatch.
